- Title
WILL URANIUM GET A GLOWING WELCOME IN VIRGINIA?
- Authors
Slaughter, Katherine E.
- Abstract
The article discusses the exploration of uranium and the impact uranium mining and milling in Virginia. It mentions that uranium exploration in Virginia was started by Marline Uranium Corp. which initiated the first exploratory drilling on the Coles Hill property in Pittsylvania County. It also mentions that citizen involvement started when farmers in the county were approached by Marline to lease their land for uranium exploration. It looks at the proposal of the Virginia Uranium, Inc. (VUI) to mine uranium in Coles Hill and the permit issued by the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy for exploratory drilling to assess size and depths of uranium deposits. The environmental and health impacts of uranium mining and the mining and milling laws are also discussed.
