- Abstract
The article profiles the former president of the National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST), William Carl Van Deventer. He was the twenty-third president elected during the twenty-eight annual meeting held at the Teachers College of Columbia University in New York on April 20, 1955. Van Deventer was born in Salisbury, Missouri on October 22, 1908 who was married to Irene Gibson and a father of one son named Frank. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the Central College of Missouri on 1930, and Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from the University of Illinois. Van Deventer was affiliated to various organizations including NARST, Ecological Society of America, American Association for the Advancement of Science, National Association of Biology Teachers, National Science Teachers Association and Sigma Xi. His teaching experience includes professor of biology at the St. Viator College in Illinois.
