- Title
Textile exports may not meet target.
- Abstract
This article forecasts that India's textile and clothing exports will fall short of the target for two consecutive years. It explains that the gap between actual exports and the target for 2008-2009 may be as high as 21%. Government estimates suggest that exports will be 20% higher at $24.6 billion than last year's level of $20.5 billion. The government targeted textile exports of $31.17 billion in 2008. It expects total exports for 2008 to about $23 billion as a rise in cotton and othe raw material prices has made it hard for textitile companies.
