- Abstract
The article compares the intensifiers included and excluded in the book "A Dictionary of the English Language," by Samuel Johnson with the content of the "Oxford English Dictionary." Intensifiers are used for expressing degree, and also to create emphasis, emotionality and involvement. Some intensifiers excluded in the book by Johnson are unspeakably and admirably while particularly, extremely are included.
