- Abstract
This article discusses a study by Li et al that explores the evaluation of tumor response to sunitinib in gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs). The study focuses on the integration of computed tomography (CT) morphology features with existing response evaluation criteria to predict progressive disease. The article highlights the limitations of the conventional RECIST criteria and introduces alternative criteria such as the Choi criteria and modified RECIST (mRECIST) for assessing tumor response in different types of malignancies. Additionally, the article discusses the use of positron emission tomography (PET) with fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose (18 FDG) to assess tumor response and introduces the PERCIST criteria for monitoring tumor response using PET. The study by Li et al provides valuable insights into correlating morphologic features of GISTs on CT with disease progression and supports the need for early identification of potential progression in patients. The article concludes by emphasizing the importance of adapting radiology to new tumor response concepts in the era of personalized healthcare.
