- Abstract
Objective: to analyze the expectations of cancer patients on the preoperative information provided by health professionals. Method: it is an exploratory study of a qualitative approach, performed in a surgical inpatient unit of a university hospital São Paulo, with 16 patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). The production of data was performed by individual interviews, transcribed and analyzed by inductive content analysis. Results: with the analysis of the interviews, two themes were established: "Needs and understanding of preoperative information of cancer patients", indicated that demand more clearly specific information; and "Satisfaction and expectations of cancer patients with preoperative teaching", in which the importance of preoperative education in decreased anxiety and bond with the professionals was emphasized, but showing the need for improvements. Conclusion: it is necessary strategies to improve understanding and meeting the expectations of this patients.
