The article attempts to contribute to the development of a more nuanced understanding of the connection between neoliberalism and human rights. The Brandt Commission aims to gain support for a model of global political economy. Neoliberalism is viewed as a specific mode of late capitalism. Dominant conceptions of human rights have tended to track shifts in prevailing economic and political structures.
