- Abstract
The article examines the effort of the Pacific Coast League (PCL) to become a third major baseball league in the United States in the 1940s. It notes that the effort of PCL was influenced by its initiative to gain control of the West Coast baseball market. The article also discusses the factors which led to the failure of PCL to become a third major league and its implications on the organized expansion process of baseball.
