- Title
Periodontal ligament injection: review of the literature.
- Authors
Herod, Edward L.
- Abstract
The article reviews the literature on the periodontal ligament injection. As stated, in the literature present for this technique special emphasis is given to technique, efficacy, post injection discomfort, anesthetic distribution, periodontal tissue response, and comparisons of anesthetic solutions. The pulpal anesthesia for dental procedures can be obtained effectively using the PDL technique with either a conventional syringe or a special PDL syringe. But the specially adapted syringes offer some advantages. However the technique should probably be used only as an adjunct to conventional injections. The PDL injection is an intraosseous injection. The anesthetic solution is widely distributed and not confined to the periodontal ligament space.
