- Abstract
The article presents a method employing X-ray fluorescence as well as atomic absorption which permits lead determination in alginates in concentration range 10-300 parts per million (ppm) lead. As reported, Philips X-ray fluorescent equipment was used for X-ray fluorescent involving preparation of calibration samples containing given amounts of lead as a vital step whereas by atomic absorption where lead content was determined after X-ray fluorescent measurements it was found that the homogeneity of standards investigated by atomic absorption was better than 0.2% in lead. As stated, lead determination in alginates is essential as for alignate impression materials the potential hazard is inhalation by dentists or dental assistants.
