- Abstract
The Cartesian Diver micro-respirometer was used to measure oxygen consumption at 18°C for all stages in the life cycle of Steganacarus magnus Nic. (Acari: Oribatei). Results suggest that oxygen consumption increases linearly with increasing weight. The effect on the oxygen consumption of females, due to retention of prelarvae within the reproductive tract, is discussed. Changes in oxygen consumption during the life cycle are discussed and results compared with those for other species. Measurements at 11°C and 25°C indicate a Q10 of 2.03.
