- Authors
Faught II, Jerry L.
- Abstract
The article examines the missionary works and challenges faced by Baptists John Davis and Joseph Islands on preaching to Muscogee Indians or Creeks in Georgia and Alabama. Davis traveled to the Indian territory where he held regular meetings and home visits after the Withington Mission was closed due to opposition of the Creeks to Christianity. Davis and fellow missionary David Lewis built the Muscogee Baptist Church at Ebenezer Station on September 9, 1832. After the death of Davis, Islands built the North Folk Baptist Church in the Choctaw Nation.
