- Title
The Baptist Ecclesiology of E. Y. Mullins: Individualism and the New Testament Church.
- Authors
Weaver, C. Douglas
- Abstract
The article focuses on the Baptist ecclesiology of theologian E. Y. Mullins. The theologian served as president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky from 1899 to 1928. It notes that Mullins' focus on the individual has been described as a hyper-individualism that leads to doctrinal minimalism and the loss of biblical authority. Mullins created and popularized the term soul competency, defined by him as the right of each individual to relate directly to God.
