- Abstract
Purpose: Cerebral Palsy (CP) is tissues of developing brain, non-repetitive, non-progressive lesions due disorders of movement and posture. Upper extremity disorders especially affect on require bimanual coordination in daily living activities (DLA) and functional independence. Aim of this study indicates the relationship between hand functionalities and DLA in children with CP. Method: Children were included in aged 2-18 years, diagnosed with CP.Demographic and clinical characteristics such as age, gender, type of CP,familial status, number of mother's pregnancy were recorded. Children were classified with "Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS)" and "Manual Ability Classification System (MACS)". The degree of difficulty encountered in hand function in "Duruoz Hand Index (DHI) was determined. DLA assessed with "Functional Independence Measure (FIM)". Results: There was a statisticially significant relationship between the DHI and term/pretherm births, GMFCS and MACS levels, FIM and GMFCS scores, DHI and MACS levels, FIM and DHI scores. Conclusıon: GMFCS and MACS scores increases using hands of restriction increases. Involvement of CP increase is recommended with family education by reducing protective behaviors. Due to lack of socialization, limitation of hand using and the negative effect on the development of skills should be investigated in children with severe CP.
