- Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the validity and reliability of the Pediatric Motivation Scale (PMS), which evaluates motivation for the intended rehabilitation program and examines the relationship between functional level. Method: The study included 62 (30 girls, 32 boys) children with chronic disability participating in a rehabilitation program between 8-18 years of age. Children's motivation for rehabilitation was evaluated by PMS and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). The correlation between the PMS and VAS was examined to determine validity of the scale. The Cronbach's Alpha value was calculated to determine internal consistency. In order to determine test-retest reliability, 15 randomly selected children were evaluated two weeks after the first evaluation and "Intraclass Correlation Coefficient" (ICC) value was calculated. Results: In the statistical analysis performed, it was found that there was a good correlation between the PMS and VAS scores in the positive direction (r:0.713, p<0.001). Internal consistency of the PMS was high (Cronbach's Alpha:0.827) and testretest reliability was very high (ICC:0.960). Conclusion: The results of the study has revealed that the Turkish version of PMS is a valid and reliable scale that could be used to evaluate the motivation for the intended rehabilitation program in children with chronic disabilities.
