- Abstract
The present study focuses on exploring the nature and level of life satisfaction among Kuwait individuals with mild Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) (n=60), and individuals without disabilities (n=40), The study focuses on assessing different dimensions of life satisfaction and general satisfaction with life, It investigates the satisfaction of living arrangements, social activities and relationships, job status, health, and general happiness. The study also aims to investigate the differences on five dimensional life satisfaction among employed individuals with and without disabilities, based on these demographic variables: age, gender, and marital status, and investigate the differences on these dimensions without the variables. The study used the Five Dimensional Life Satisfaction Index (Arabic version) by Al-Kandari (1997). The findings show that there are no differences in the Five Dimensional Life Satisfaction among individuals with and without disabilities, based on demographic variables. However, in general, individuals with mild IDD experience happiness more than individuals without disabilities who experience satisfaction on social activities and relationships, and health. Moreover, the results indicate that being satisfied at work is the most important are a that individuals with IDD account for, whereas individuals without disabilities are more concerned about being satisfied with the are as of living arrangements, social activities and relationships, and jobs. Assessing life satisfaction among individuals with IDD helps to recognize whether these individuals live in a normal environment like their peers without disabilities, and helps to determine the needs of these individuals and whether these needs are met by society to attain them into normalization.
