- Abstract
In this study, access to mobile technologies and internet, and usage of these technologies in Turkey and the world has been investigated; opportunities that mobile technologies create in education and limitations have been taken into consideration. In worldwide and Turkey, as internet access and penetration of mobile technology increases rapidly, the time consumed within these technologies increases as well. Most countries make policies for usage and spread of internet and information technologies that have crucial importance so as not to be behind the digital age we live in. When considered, mobile technology usage and internet usage via that technology which especially decreased to little ages cause a pursuit of opportunities in education. There exist two advantages for use of these technologies in education; first one is adaptation of children into the present digital age, being comfortable with the today's technology and ready for future's technology; second one is profiting from the technologies which is already used and consumed time within but not benefitted from it enough. Yet, as an evidence for the contrary of the case can be shown that the specified opinion which is "content is helpless, harmful or not interesting" has the highest rate amongst the reasons why not to obtain internet access in Turkey. Underlying reasons why it is highest are that most of e-contents and applications in digital environment are in English, not addressing user needs and have low quality. In this context, to turn spread of mobile technologies and internet into opportunities in education, the policies Turkey needs and that must be produced should be regard to e-content and applications that are domestic (in Turkish) and have a suited pedagogy.
