- Abstract
This modern society is meanderingly dominated by such malign forces that drag down the glory of 21th century human advancement. The gradual socio-political degradation and moral indignity of this techno-toxic mankind encourage its race to commit such deplorable sin that slowly takes the commonwealth to the graveyard of the feudal wasteland. D.C. Chambial, one of the most erudite contemporary Indian English poets, is quite calm yet very forceful in his observation and is very impressionistic, real and utmost truthful to life; who in his second volume of poetry, The Cargoes of the Bleeding Hearts & Other Poems (1984), has painted such dystopian picture of his land on his poetic canvass, manifesting multifarious social issues reasoning modern anguish, pains arising out of chaotic living conditions, poverty, social inequality, social injustice, threatened life and human existence and many others. This collection of thirty six short poems decked with astounding imageries and adept symbols fathoms the sordid realities of human life with a poetic urge of establishing an egalitarian society of peaceful single land. With the prophetic and quasi-prophetic essence in his writing which tends to present doom-laden visions of the world and sombre and minatory predictions of mankind's destiny, Chambial here warns his fellow beings to save the humanity.
