- Title
INTAGLIOS IN THE RD MILNS ANTIQUITIES MUSEUM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND.
- Authors
Levick, Samantha; Donaldson, James
- Abstract
The intaglio collection in the RD Milns Antiquities Museum at The University of Queensland, Australia, is small but diverse and warrants exploration. Dating intaglios has historically proven difficult, but a combination of iconographic, typological, and production dating methods have proved effective in providing a date range for each object. A short discussion accompanies each item. An introductory section outlines the main methods of production and techniques of engraving Roman intaglios, along with a survey of literary accounts of their usage in ancient Greece and Rome.
