- Abstract
According to the article author, the Navy and Marine Corps study of "The Adjustment of Veterans to Civilian Life," by Lt. Wilbur B. Brookover suggests the need of a similar Army study, to arrive at definite generalizations concerning educational and vocational readjustment of servicemen. At the AAF Convalescent Hospital, Fort Logan, Colorado, in August 1945, a study of Army Air Force white enlisted personnel was made. Statistics from this survey disclose many similarities as well as some differences, when compared with Brookhover's report. According to the AAF findings, forty-four per cent of these men want to return to their old jobs, or similar ones; 32 per cent do not wish to return to their old livelihood; 13 per cent were not sure of what they wanted to do; while 11 per cent had been students prior to induction and so had had no old jobs. Of the men desiring to return to their 115 different types of civilian jobs, the agricultural workers proved the most determined; 27 out of 39 or 69 per cent were positive that they would return to the farm.
