- Abstract
This article presents a study related to A Chloromyxum-like myxosporean infection in the stomach of cultured Spams aurata. Heavy infection by a myxosporean tentatively identified as Chloromyxum sp. was recovered in two out of 500 histologically studied juvenile S. aurata. Parasites were found only in the stomach, being absent from other segments of the digestive tract and associated tissues. In the cardiac region of the stomach infection was limited to the gastric mucosa lining the surface and the pits, but was absent from the secretory epithelium lining the fundic glands.
