Rising Healthcare Costs: Searching For a Cure.
- Authors
Sinnett, William M.
- Abstract
The article provides information on the effectiveness of using consumer-driven health care plans to control health care costs. The theory in place behind these plans is that employees become better consumer decision-makers when they are personally responsible for the related costs. Health reimbursement accounts feature employer-paid health reimbursement accounts as well as incentives for employees to be better health care consumers. First dollar coverage plans feature insurance carriers covering most of an employee's health care expenses, with addition expenses being subject to a large deductible. Health promotion efforts such as onsite screenings and prevention training may increase employee value while decreasing health care costs. INSET: 10 Healthcare Cost Drivers.
