- Title
Introducing and establishing a Wide Reading Program in the middle years of schooling.
- Authors
Teese, Nerelie
- Abstract
The article offers the author's insights regarding her establishment and introduction of a Wide Reading Program in Year 10 English classes in Victoria. The author mentions that teachers were assisted in targeting and identifying reluctant readers under the Wide Reading Program, which was a research-based scheme, through student-generated data such as recording of reading details and goal setting with library borrowing records. She states that the practice by teachers of reading with their class is one of the most important keys to success in the program. She mentions books that work with reluctant boy readers such as "Hell Island," by Matthew Reilly, and "The End of the World," by Derek Landy.
