- Abstract
The article discusses the body of research regarding stock market crashes in the U.S. and Japan in October 1987. Research on the New York and Tokyo stock exchanges suggests that insight on stock and futures markets can be analyzed to prevent future crises. The Brady Report is mentioned for having an international reputation as an excellent example of a government report which influenced research and discussion on circuit breakers, margin requirements, and the regulation of stock markets. The lack of research on the Japanese stock market crash is noted. Basic features of the Japanese trading system are examined. The author looks at the Dow Jones Industrial Average index from 1987 to 1988.
