The article examines trends and changes in the structure of hog markets in the U.S. It looks at the increased size of hog farms, a move towards alternative marketing agreement and increased concentration in packing. It highlights results of a study that showed that alternative marketing agreements were not a contributing factor. Proposals to limit use of marketing contract in hog procurement is also evaluated.
