Slangen, A. B. A.; Schmeits, M. J.
- Abstract
The article discusses the probabilistic forecast system development for winter thunderstorms around Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands. It presents the equations being used such as Model Output Statistics (MOS) and numerical weather prediction (NWP) models, which include the High-Resolution Limited-Area Model (HIRLAM). The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) aims to notify aircraft pilots for possible aircraft induced lightning (AIL) risk during winter.
