- Abstract
The author talks about the man-made catastrophe suffered by the Aral Sea, which was once the fourth-largest landlocked body of water on earth. Topics covered include the idea of diverting water from the Aral's tributaries, the Syr Darya and the Amu Darya, to irrigate parched fields, the construction of the Korakal Dam which halted the outflow of water from the North to the South Aral and the call for the construction of hydroelectric dams on vital tributaries.
