- Abstract
This article is the result of research aimed to inquire for the representations of women leaders, habitants of the urban area of the municipality of Medellín - Commune 4-, regarding the political participation of women in different community, social and political scenarios, based on their own experience of community management and the exercise of their citizens’ rights. It is described their experience in relation to their right to vote and to be elected, their identification as citizens, subjects of rights and duties, the pass of exclusively private area of the home to the interaction with other people and the possibility of spaces of Meeting for the discussion on the current situation of women in the Commune and the city. It was used a qualitative approach, descriptive level and phenomenological method. It was applied a depth interview to 11 women highlighted in their work of political participation a level of commune and the city and identified emerging categories as social and community participation of women, women’s leadership, citizen participation, and women’s political participation and incidence. The results show a very significant aspect in the notion of the concept of leadership as a continuum of participation from the social and community to its political impact, which allowed these women to achieve recognition of the community as agents of social change.
