- Abstract
We have observed that the study and the construction of electrochemical generators, such as batteries and voltaic cells, although quite emphasized in Chemistry labs, do not receive the same attention in Physics courses. In many cases the study of electrical current appears dissociated from the historical development process of this concept, which we understand it is directly related to the construction of the first electric battery. In an attempt to persuade the teacher to start the study of the electrical current, considering the historical experiments that contributed to the construction of this concept, this paper presents a proposal for building of a voltaic cell, ie a galvanic current generator constructed from inexpensive and simple material. We believe that this experiment can be useful to the teacher to introduce a discussion of the historical controversies and events that contributed to build the first electric cell and the consequent achievement of a sustainable electrical current.
