- Abstract
An essay is presented which associates the monologue of Lavell Crawford, finalist of the reality show "Last Comic Standing," to the character of Little Black Sambo in Helen Bannerman's "The Story of Little Black Sambo." It explores the cultural value of Bannerman's work and its alleged heroism. It also highlights the inclusion of racially offensive names in the children's book.
