- Abstract
Dear Editor, We read with interest the paper by Abdelzaher et al regarding the benefits of using ultrasound as a reliable diagnostic tool for the early detection of subclinical ankle pathologies to prevent further deterioration in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Second, as RA affects multiple joints and soft tissues other than the ankle and foot, it warrants further studies to determine whether ultrasound could be effectively used to detect early RA in other regions that are involved. We look forward to the potential of using ultrasound for the early detection of RA and other autoimmune diseases because it is more clinically accessible for most patients than other imaging modalities such as computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In addition, serology data such as anti-citrullinated protein antibody (ACPA),[13] C-reactive protein (CRP), and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) should be taken into account as well, since these biological markers are early predictors of RA, which would also enhance the accuracy of RA early diagnosis along with ultrasonography.
