- Title
The Editor as Interpreter.
- Authors
KONDRUP, JOHNNY
- Abstract
In connection with the new edition of Søren Kierkegaard's writings, the article points out the fact that any edition de facto rests upon a series of preliminary choices, which inevitably govern the future reader's understanding of the individual text. The decisions of the critical editor, whether he himself knows it or not, have hermeneutical implications, i.e., he is involved in a process of interpretation. The article, which takes its examples from the works of S0ren Kierkegaard and Hans Christian Andersen, is an attempt to bring to consciousness the intimate relations between textual criticism and hermeneutics.
