- Abstract
This article examines preschool teachers' views on the teaching of health education at the preschool level in the two mid-western counties of the United States. The study further investigates the types of health-related activities that the teachers believed to be effective in their classrooms. The results indicate that a majority of the surveyed teachers believed that the early years comprise the most important time to intensify the teaching of health topics. Furthermore, the teachers stated that health-related activities with direct bearing on everyday life work well and have greater impact on preschoolers' health behavior. However, participants acknowledged the paucity of health-related activities in the current preschool curriculum. To this end, the study recommends that health activities be incorporated into every aspect of the preschool learning environment to ensure growth in children's health knowledge.
