- Abstract
The article discusses the efforts to discern critical moments and take action in relation to the lessons that can be learned by analyzing the life of the late African American law professor Derrick A. Bell Jr. Race relations and discrimination are addressed, along with Bell's critical race theory. The U.S. Supreme Court and social progress in America during the 1960s are examined, as well as the attitudes of conservatives and Bell's tenure as the dean of the University of Oregon Law School.
