- Abstract
David was a keen collector of many things, from Chinese ceramics to livery buttons and stamps; he was delighted to help the Royal Mail with the design and commentary for stamps marking the 1986 return of Halley's Comet. Graph B David W Hughes (1941-2022) b Mike Edmunds recalls an authority on comets and asteroids, a knowledgeable historian of astronomy and a much-loved teacher and colleague whose enthusiasm and good humour lit up the lives of those who met him. It was typical of David that he wasn't content to study Halley's comet, he wanted to know all about Halley the man too - and he happily delved into the history of ancient, renaissance and even 20th century astronomy.
