- Abstract
Of all the books collected under the title El río del tiempo, it is in his latest volume, Entre fantasmas, where Fernando Vallejo brings the transgression of norms and conventions - a constant in this cycle - into the field of literature, opposing to the traditional novel and the realist aesthetics an alternative: the autofiction and his own aesthetics. Stemming always from the textual level, the present work investigates the axiology which this proposal is based on from a sociocritical perspective, relating it to the thinking of Emil Cioran and the ancient cynic philosophy. The analysis contemplates various levels (narrator-protagonist, which refers to the author with the freedom specific to the autofiction, internal structure, style), and it is particularly oriented towards the textual limits, key centers which concentrate either a great density of literary conventions, when canonical literature is concerned, or the challenge of this one and the invention of a personal aesthetics, as in the case of Fernando Vallejo's work. Consequently, the inversion of values is being emphasized, in the style of the ancient cynics, operated by the author in respect to the traditional literature or the great narrative of the 60s. From this perspective, the present work proposes a new reading of Fernando Vallejo's Entre fantasmas, where it encounters an original answer to questions which are fundamental to the contemporary Spanish-American narrative, and which are related to the future of genres, the first person narrative, the textual limits, the author, the reader.
