How Can Satan Cast Out Satan?
- Authors
Bott, Nicholas
- Abstract
An essay is presented which examines the rise of evil elements as a sacred form in Christopher Nolan's Batman movie, "The Dark Knight." It explains the relevance of Ren&#233 Girard's mimetic theory in the development of the Bruce Wayne character in "Batman Begins," and demonstrates the lack of goodness in Batman's self-sacrifice when compared to the sacrificial death of Christ. The essay proposes that the surrogate victim mechanism by which Batman chooses to save Gotham is a satanic process.
