- Abstract
The article discusses Chiari malformations with the aid of a case study of a 45-year old female who was diagnosed on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Chiari malformations involve downward displacement of the cerebellar tonsils through the foramen magnum. They were first described by Hans Chiari, a 19th century Austrian pathologist and are categorized into 4 types. Surgical intervention is indicated in case of neurologic impairment, severity that is debilitating and syrinx enlargement on MRI.
