- Abstract
The article examines dental phobia and how cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and systematic desensitization (SD) techniques are used to reduce fear associated with dental procedures. Topics discussed include how CBT addresses maladaptive expectations and emotions regarding dental procedures and how SD uses graded exposure and thought reconstruction to reduce symptoms of phobia in the general public. Also mentioned is the application of SD techniques on patients with autism spectrum disorder.
