Tucker, Lauryl
- Abstract
An essay on the incarnations of narcissus, echo and parody in the poems written by English poet Stevie Smith. It discusses engagement with popular culture and representation of childhood as a means of subverting conventional gender concepts concerned with domestic femininity. It also explores the importance of childhood for her deconstruction of the binary between narcissistic and desire in the poem "Mother, Among the Dustbins" by Smith.
