- Abstract
The article discusses several survey projects undertaken by students enrolled in the Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) public history program. It examines how the students identify historic resources in the landscape of the vicinity of the school, which is located in the East Texas town of Nacogdoches, Texas. The author discusses his experience in working with the SFA public history program as a faculty member. According to the article, historic resource surveys undertaken by the SFA program include driving through historic neighborhoods or documenting architecture and other themes within a certain area. The author states that some SFA projects are undertaken to fulfill the legislative requirements of the U.S. National Historic Preservation Act of 1966.
