- Title
"Tierra entre medio": Borderlands of Knowledge in the Art of Frida Kahlo.
- Authors
Otto, Melanie
- Abstract
The essay examines the ways in which Mexican artist Frida Kahlo represented the concept of Borderlands developed by Chicana writer Gloria Anzaldúa in her artwork, especially her self-portraits. Here, Borderlands are both physical, for example the Southwest U.S./Mexico border, and psychological, and often represent intercultural contact. Kahlo's association with Mexican-American social movements is explained as well.
