- Abstract
New Zealand is one of the main countries in Oceania with frequent forest fires, and has a long history of fire ecology research with many achievements. Starting from the fire ecology and fire management based on fire ecology in New Zealand, the progress, existing problems, and future research hotspots and directions of fire ecology in New Zealand were summarized in this article. The research results indicated that although climate change has led to an extension of the forest fire season and an increase in the number of occurrences, based on the long-term research results of fire ecology, the country has timely adjusted forest fire management policies and taken corresponding forest fire management measures to improve fire prevention levels, reducing forest fire risks. The research progress of fire ecology in New Zealand can provide ideas and references for regional fire ecology research in China, as well as provide theoretical basis for forest resource management and fire prevention in China.
