- Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine the number of drops reaching to the unit area with the different types sprayer nozzles used at low volume pesticide application and to estimate the spray characteristics. In the experiments, standard flat-fan (ST), multi range flat-fan (LU), standard flat-fan with narrow spray angle (STD), hollow cone (DC), drift guard (AD), air induction (IDK) and twinjet air induction (IDKT) nozzle types were used. The spray applications were carried out with a constant spray pressure of 300 kPa and an application volume of 80 l/ha using an automatic speed controlled linear moving spray simulator. Water sensitive papers (WSP, 26×76 mm) were used to take drop samples and placed to the top, middle and bottom parts of the metal poles. According to the research result, ST, LU, STD, DC and AD type nozzles produced fine and medium droplets. The medium and coarse droplets were produced with IDK type nozzle. The spray characteristic of the IDKT type nozzle was coarse, very coarse and extremely coarse droplets. The averages of drop density varied between 88-202 number cm-2 for the nozzles producing fine and medium droplets; 47-48 number cm-2 for the nozzles producing medium and coarse droplets; 19-34 number cm-2 for the nozzles producing coarse, very coarse and extremely coarse droplets. In order to improve the biological efficiency at spray application used the IDKT type nozzle producing coarse droplets, its drop density should be also increased. Therefore, in spray applications where IDKT type nozzle is used, it is necessary to increase the operating pressure within the recommended pressure range and to produce smaller diameter droplets.
