- Title
Covenantal Theology: The Eucharistic Order of History A Tribute to Rev. Donald J. Keefe, S.J.
- Authors
MURPHY, JOSEPH A.
- Abstract
In Covenantal Theology, Donald Keefe contends that reality itself, and thus any philosophical, theological, scientific, secular or sacred account of it, is primarily and ultimately only freely intelligible as Eucharistically centered. The marital union of man and woman at the dawn of creation is restored to integrity by the maternal union of Jesus with His Mother, who thereby reconstitute this fallen order by His continuing Eucharistic presence synchronically and diachronically across the centuries of cosmic events. Humanity as male and female is thus restored to its imaging of the divine through the covenantal union of a man and a woman, which parallels the nuptial union of Christ and the Church and overcomes the secular independence of the world from its sacred origin.
