- Authors
GULLEY, ALISON
- Abstract
The article analyzes the film "Beowulf" directed by Robert Zemeckis. Particular focus is given to the film's depictions of heroism and evil as related to political and social conditions in the U.S. following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The author emphasizes the ambiguity of the characters Grendel, Hrothgar, and Beowulf as portrayed in Zemeckis' film. Other topics include stereotypes, difference, and U.S. conservative critiques of Muslims.
