- Title
Editorial: To Be or Not To Be.
- Authors
Hoppenstand, Gary
- Abstract
The author questions the assertion that popular culture is inherently disposable and therefor inferior to high culture by many in the academic community. While he agrees that resilience is a valid measure of importance and quality, it is argued that the standard of longevity can also be applied to many forms of popular entertainment from the past. He stresses that popular culture has a history and permanence of its own and some work that is considered disposable today will be revered tomorrow.
