The article focuses on the U.S. Defense Advance Research Projects Academy (DARPA) Robotics Challenge, which demonstrated that the motor control performance of humanoid robots is far inferior to that of humans and rigid robots have been the main player in humanoid robotics. It is noted that for extracting features from acquired data, deep learning methods are becoming more popular.
