- Abstract
Photoacoustic microscopy is applied to observe the surface structure of Cu-Al-Ni shape-memory single crystals in both the loaded and unloaded state. Visualizing the early stages of the loading-induced martensitic transformation is demonstrated to be feasible. The photoacoustic images are distinguished to advantage from the corresponding CCD images by a higher contrast between different phases of the shape memory alloy.
