- Abstract
The article focuses on history of systemic structures and bias that prevent those with intellectual and developmental disabilities from independent living. It mentions decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in the case Olmstead v. L.C. which interpreted Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and current status of housing and medical services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disability (IDD). It also mentions increasing flexible Medicaid waiver programs for individuals with IDD.
